President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke out against the possibility of conducting a political trial against the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García. He is accused of irregularities during the 2024 elections, such as the misuse of resources to promote the candidacy of his wife, Mariana Rodríguez, for the mayorship of Monterrey, which would have violated impartiality.
At a press conference at Palacio Nacional, Sheinbaum was questioned about the ongoing investigations against García. The Anticorruption Commission of the Congress of Nuevo León, with an opposition majority, issued a request to open a political trial against him. The president mentioned that the decision to proceed with the trial lies with Congress and pointed out that this matter seems more like a dispute of political interests between the governor, the PRI, and the PAN.
Sheinbaum criticized the constant political struggles in Nuevo León, indicating that there have even been difficulties in appointing a prosecutor in the state. Referring to Adrián de la Garza's victory in the mayorship of Monterrey against Mariana Rodríguez, the president emphasized that the population has already cast their vote in 2024 and that this should be the final point in the controversy, suggesting that the dispute has deep political roots between the PRI, the PAN, and the governor.
