Nuevo León has a new Attorney General. After nearly three years of this position being vacant, the local Congress unanimously appointed Javier Flores Saldívar. A previous collaborator of former governor Rodrigo Medina and with experience in this role when he replaced Adrián de la Garza in 2015, Flores Saldívar also maintains a good relationship with the current governor, Samuel García.
Upon taking office, Flores Saldívar stated that his main objective is to ensure effective coordination with other authorities and to assume responsibility for the information necessary to combat crime. Regarding the structure of the attorney general's office, he plans to thoroughly evaluate all areas, including key political figures such as Griselda Núñez in feminicides and Luis Enrique Orozco as deputy attorney general.
In his statements, the new Attorney General reiterated that he does not consider himself a state attorney. He emphasized the importance of respecting the law, strengthening institutions, and maintaining a respectful relationship with the executive branch, without falling into subordination. As part of his evaluation strategy, he committed to reviewing the performance of current officials, as well as crime rates in critical areas such as feminicides and kidnappings.
Flores Saldívar pledged to exercise his position with sensitivity towards social issues and to pay special attention to high-impact crimes. He emphasized that, while he will maintain respect for the office of the governor, the Attorney's Office will always act in accordance with the law.
