The mayor of Santa Catarina, Jesús Nava Rivera, has been developing operation structures for voting in Monterrey, even though he is not yet focused on a municipal project in the city. Changing political parties twice, Nava does not rule out the possibility of participating with Morena in the race for the mayoralty of Monterrey in 2027.
In this sense, Nava seems determined to promote his wife as a candidate for the mayoralty of Monterrey, despite the anti-nepotism laws promoted by Claudia Sheinbaum. This strategy has generated controversy within Morena, where it is perceived that Nava acts outside of presidential decisions, and he is criticized for his close relationship with Mayor Adrián De la Garza.
With two terms completed in Santa Catarina, Nava considers Monterrey to be a suitable ground for his foray, given the limited number of profiles and local structures of Morena in the region, which have had unfavorable results in recent elections.
In the political context of Monterrey, the leader of the Green Party, Edgar Salvatierra, was close to imposing a candidate in the capital in 2024 due to the indecision of Morena, which ultimately nominated Mauricio Cantú at the proposal of Tatiana Clouthier, obtaining a modest result at the polls.
Faced with the rivalry between the PRI and Movimiento Ciudadano, and pressures from the PAN for a candidate in the capital, Nava contemplates the possibility of establishing an orderly transition with the PRI members, which raises concerns within the PRI, where the performance of one of its main projects in Monterrey, Lorena de la Garza, is not enjoying popularity according to internal party polls.
