The Secretary General of Government, Javier Navarro, announced the call for the Metropolitan Table to address the issue of pollution. This initiative comes after Governor Samuel García met with business chambers and civil society organizations, including Caintra, Coparmex, and Civic Council, with the aim of finding solutions to this problem.
Navarro emphasized the importance of addressing environmental pollution as a priority, following the example of Mexico City and its metropolitan area. He highlighted that, despite having a population of more than 26 million inhabitants and a large number of companies, consensuses and positive results were achieved in that region. In this sense, he mentioned that Nuevo León can also make significant progress on this issue.
The General Secretariat of Government will soon establish a schedule of working meetings involving representatives from the private, governmental, and civil society sectors. The goal will be to unite efforts to prevent and combat environmental pollution in the state. Javier Navarro informed that these working groups will focus on identifying the causes of pollution and defining action plans to address the problem.
For his part, Javier González Alcántara, Deputy Secretary for the Environment, pointed out that the Metropolitan Table will be a milestone in the fight against atmospheric pollution in the state. This governance body will begin its work with a meeting next Monday and will include the participation of mayors from Nuevo León municipalities, as well as the Federal Secretary of the Environment, Alicia Bárcena.
The Metropolitan Table will focus on implementing coordinated actions to reduce atmospheric pollution in the metropolis. With the intention of finding a comprehensive solution in the short, medium, and long term, Javier Navarro reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensure air quality and the health of the population, especially children and adolescents.
