Monterrey's Mayor Advocates for Unity Against US Tariffs

The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, in his capacity as president of the National Conference of Municipalities of Mexico (Conamm), reaffirmed the commitment of the cities affiliated with this organization to unite in response to the call for unity made by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The objective of this union is to protect the national sovereignty of Mexico against the risks posed by the imposition of tariffs by the United States government.

De la Garza committed to collaborating directly with the federal government to work towards the economic stability of the country. He proposed carrying out four actions with various agencies in order to provide support in this delicate situation:

First, he proposed promoting the brand "Made in Mexico" together with the Ministry of Economy to increase the consumption of national products and services, thus promoting local investment and job creation. Second, he suggested strengthening a common front with the authorities of National Defense, Navy, and Federal Security to combat organized crime and criminals.

Additionally, he committed to ensuring the human rights of migrants in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and the National Guard. Finally, he proposed organizing actions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protect Mexicans residing in the United States.

De la Garza expressed his support for the Presidency of the Republic through a statement issued by Conamm, urging unity and cooperation in these crucial times for Mexico. On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced in an Informative Assembly at the Zócalo of CDMX that, thanks to the USMCA, Mexico would not be affected by the reciprocal tariffs that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, would apply starting April 2, as this treaty establishes tariffs between both nations.
