Sheinbaum to Attend Business Assembly in Monterrey

Claudia Sheinbaum will attend the annual assembly of Caintra Nuevo León on March 20 in Monterrey, thus marking a change from the stance of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who used to avoid such events with businesspeople. Sheinbaum's participation in this forum takes on special significance in the current context, as she seeks to send a message of certainty to the business sector and demonstrate a close relationship between the Mexican Government and businessmen, something that seems to be lacking in Washington, according to the nervousness in the markets.

In contrast to López Obrador's attitude, who used to receive complaints about the lack of certainty in these meetings, Sheinbaum aims to create greater closeness with the businessmen of Monterrey to prevent divestments in Mexico or the relocation of supply chains to the United States, as was recently rumored at Grupo Alfa. She also seeks to thank the support of the companies in the "Group of 10" for the accelerated creation of a job bank for migrants deported by Trump, which currently offers more than 35,000 vacancies.

Sheinbaum's presence at this assembly also aims to show the United States a strong cohesion with the tycoons of Monterrey, in contrast to the tense relationship between Trump and his business sector, especially amid the proposed tariff war by the U.S. president. It is rumored that some of the businessmen present at the event have hired lobbying firms in Washington to support the T-MEC and establish closer ties between the Mexican federal government and the Trump administration.

Last week, the first approaches were initiated with Susie Wiles, Trump's chief of staff, from a corporate office in San Pedro Garza García. In this sense, Sheinbaum's participation in the Caintra Nuevo León assembly is loaded with political and economic significance, showing a new approach in the relationships between the Mexican Government and the business sector.
