Mexican Senator Criticizes Authorities for Neglecting Citizens Amid World Cup 2026 Preparations

Senator Waldo Fernández from Nuevo León, representing the Fourth Transformation (4T), criticized the state government and the Monterrey administration for neglecting public spaces in contrast with the promotion of the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

From a public square in a state of considerable disrepair, the lawmaker deemed it imprudent for the administrations to focus so heavily on organizing the world championship while paying no attention to the needs of Nuevo León's residents.

"The Monterrey municipality and Governor Samuel Garcia are in a constant fight, each claiming to be organizing the world event, and every day they present you with numbers or beautiful cities," the senator said.

"But what they don't show you is the facade of the World Cup that nobody sees. This is the face of the state and municipal governments that abandon their own people," he added.

Fernández stated that by being caught up in the World Cup's glamour, the authorities have stopped addressing basic needs. He also insisted his criticism is mainly directed at the MC movement and the PRI-PAN coalition, particularly against Governor Samuel Garcia and Mayor Adrian de la Garza, two key figures in the 2027 electoral process who constantly gain prominence through the international sporting event.

"This is the new face of the World Cup," he concluded.
