Business Sector Backs Carlos Garza for Potential Monterrey Mayoral Run

In Mexico, business circles are considering supporting current Secretary of Finance Carlos Garza for a potential mayoral run in Monterrey. His experience and good relations with the opposition make him a strong candidate for the National Action Party (PAN).

While legal advisor Ulises Carlín advances in the state cabinet to become the new treasurer, the business sector is growing in its intention to offer support to the current Secretary of Finance, Carlos Garza, with a view to a candidacy in Monterrey.

Garza, with a long corporate career, is the current official who best navigates the opposition, especially with the National Action Party (PAN). Businessmen highlight his virtue: after so many years managing state resources—he took office with Jaime Rodríguez Calderón in 2015—Garza has full knowledge of the administrative situation and would not be a bad candidate to enter the electoral arena.

For at least three weeks, the Caintra NL business association has been mentioning that Garza could be a citizen candidate presented by PAN in Monterrey, which would give the coalition with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) more strength.

Currently, PAN's strongest card for the capital is deputy Juan Carlos De la Fuente, who, by the way, also has a good relationship with the treasurer.

Sources close to the treasurer mention to LPO that, for the moment, the official is not contemplating political options and will dedicate time to other personal projects. They also assure that he is not leaving the office on bad terms with the governor and that if he were to explore electoral paths, his first possibility would be the Citizens' Movement (MC).
