Navarro Velasco's Political Ambitions in Mexico

Javier Navarro Velasco, former Secretary of Government of Nuevo León, seeks to return to the political scene in the pre-electoral year. His activity in Mexico City and negotiations with the opposition spark debates within his party MC, where his chances of winning a federal deputyship are questioned due to the strong position of PRI and PAN.

Navarro Velasco's Political Ambitions in Mexico

In the Mexican Movement (MC), there is talk of political aspirations for San Lázaro. In the official's inner circle, it is assured that Navarro Velasco could be a key factor in the complex budgetary and political negotiation between MC and the PRI-PAN coalition. After being put in charge of the 'Cabinet of Good Governance' and handling legal matters in Mexico City for the executive branch of Nuevo León, Javier Navarro Velasco seeks to reappear on the political scene in the pre-electoral year. The opposition also states that no one else from MC has contacted them for a private or public meeting regarding these negotiations. In parallel, the former Secretary of Government has intensified his media presence in the state and maintains his operation in the capital representing the state government. Recently, he has been active with ambassadors and mayors in CDMX, and also leads the Mexican Association of International Affairs Offices (AMAIE). Within MC, it is considered that this activity responds to Navarro Velasco's need to obtain parliamentary immunity in 2027, after being affected by the political war the Executive waged against PRI-PAN. However, in the party, it is considered that it will be complex for him to win a federal deputyship in Monterrey or San Pedro, areas where he could compete against a solid base of PRI and PAN support. However, from Cantera Palace, it is confirmed that in the budgetary dispute, only Governor Samuel García and Miguel Flores Serna are involved. Denunciations, political trials, and other legal complaints were put on 'stand by' after an agreement a year ago, however, it is understood that all this could be reactivated in the electoral process or, in the worst-case scenario, in case of a premature political break. Taking advantage of his constant activity in the country's capital, his negotiation to leave the Secretariat of Government, and the electoral disposition of allies—the College of Lawyers, the notaries' guild, and a sector of the business community—he expects to obtain a proportional representation seat in the Congress of the Union for MC in Nuevo León. However, due to the interference of Miguel Flores and the presidential focus of the governor, doubts arise, and he does not rule out launching a campaign for the same position.
