In response to rumors that the most prominent PAN member in the Monterrey government cabinet, Fernando Margain Sada, would be the PAN's candidate for the capital in 2027, the state leadership began promoting other candidates to avoid further speculation about the San Pedro native. According to information from LPO, within PAN, they are uncomfortable with Margain Sada's prominence in recent months as the "sole candidate" for the capital, as well as his closeness to the PRI mayor, Adrián de la Garza, whom he accompanies to all kinds of events and trips as Chief of Staff. For this reason, the state CEN of PAN now speaks of defining the candidacy through a survey with more profiles, a process similar to the one carried out in San Pedro in 2024 - in which Margain Sada also participated. Additionally, in recent days, the promotion of two PAN figures has intensified. The first is Arturo Salinas, who since leaving the Judicial Power has declared his candidacy for the position and now insists on appearing in the newspapers. On the other hand, Iván Garza, head of PAN structures in the capital, has also shown interest in the post with a more elaborate video, considering he is a profile with less local political weight. This editorial had previously reported that the alliance between PRI and PAN maintained an agreement that, due to the tricolor's project for the governorship with De la Garza, the blue party would manage the candidacy in the capital, and Fernando Margáin appeared as the candidate. However, if the San Pedro native did not take off in the polls, the PRI would position one of its aspirants, such as Karina Barrón, Lorena de la Garza, among many others. With the emergence of other PAN candidates for Monterrey, they also seek to ensure that Margáin is not the only party representative and that in the Crystal Palace they accept a battery of suitable profiles for the succession and not lose the operation leading up to 2027.
PAN in Monterrey prepares for 2027 mayoral elections

This is due to concerns about his closeness to the PRI mayor and his status as the "sole candidate." PAN now considers defining the candidacy via a survey with multiple profiles.
