Expert on Security in Nuevo León After 'El Mencho' Take Down

The expert acknowledged the actions of federal authorities but warned that it will be a watershed moment in crime across the country. He noted that there are no direct collateral damages in Nuevo León, however, he urged to be alert on the border with Tamaulipas and the United States, as well as with the Northeast Cartel, which operates directly in the entity. He commented on the situation of the killing of Nemesio Oseguera, alias El Mencho, and stated that the operation was very well planned and executed. He emphasized that it is the first time that allied groups have united on violence issues, with the aim of turning people against the government. According to him, criminal groups will fight regardless of the consequences, so it is important to detain all the leaders, especially with the support of the Prosecutor's Office. The expert also noted that for citizens, it is more important that their property is not affected than the number of crimes. In Nuevo León, the cartel does not have a direct presence, but operates through its partners, such as the Gulf Cartel. He mentioned that all criminal groups are watching what happens inside the Jalisco Cartel, but for now it is just speculation. The expert stressed that security in the state has improved and the authorities are better prepared, especially thanks to coordination with federal authorities. The main threat comes from the Northeast Cartel (CDN), but due to problems with the Sinaloa Cartel, violence has decreased. He also added that during the FIFA World Cup, attacks on authorities are possible, but not necessarily against the population. The expert called for investment in security and noted the importance of not only the number of police officers, but also intelligence to fight drug trafficking.
