The Attorney General's Office of Justice of Nuevo León confirmed that the two main suspects in the illegal activities operated through the social media account known as “Tía Paty” have been formally linked to process for the crime of extortion. The case, which has caught the attention of cyber authorities, involves César “N” and Astrid “N”, who were arrested on March 25. According to the investigation's background, the accused's modus operandi consisted of using social media to spread defamatory content and subsequently demanding payments from victims in exchange for removing it. In addition to these extortion charges, the Attorney General's Office is investigating possible links between the couple and recruitment and identity theft schemes. Astrid “N” was the first to face the judicial resolution, obtaining a binding order and the precautionary measure of preventive imprisonment in a Female Social Reintegration Center. Meanwhile, César “N” remained in a pending legal situation after his defense requested an extension of the term and scheduled his hearing for March 31, 2026. For both defendants, authorities have set a three-month deadline for the closure of the complementary investigation, during which they will remain in custody. How the “Tía Paty” Extortion Scheme Worked Lawyer Perla Calvillo Cantú was a victim of this extortion network and decided to report it to the authorities. According to her statement, the scheme involved a network of people who participated by sending photographs and providing personal information to the account to carry out the extortions. The individuals in charge used the page to publish lies and defame people by inventing facts. Once the defamatory information was published, the account's operators contacted the victims and demanded large sums of money in exchange for removing the lies from the network. The scheme included persecution and systematic harassment not only against the main victim but also against her inner circle (parents, children, and siblings) to exert greater pressure. According to her testimony, she became a target of this scheme after refusing to participate and disagreeing with the crimes being committed on the page. After the hearing resumed and once the Control Judge analyzed the evidence provided by the Public Ministry, it was also decided to link her to the process. Consequently, César “N” must comply with the precautionary measure of preventive imprisonment in a State Social Reintegration Center. Additionally, he was ordered to pay 400,000 pesos to stop bothering her and her family. Another victim was Mallory Caballero, a content creator from Nuevo León. On her social media, she commented that one of the detained individuals was her “friend,” so she was surprised to learn of his involvement in the scheme. She said they ruined her life for three years by making up gossip to extort her. As a result, she suffered six months of persecution.
