PAN-PRI Alliance Remains Strong in Monterrey

Despite discontent, the alliance between PAN and PRI in Monterrey strengthens, with joint efforts for the municipal elections. Leaders seek to ensure unity against competition.

PAN-PRI Alliance Remains Strong in Monterrey

Sources within the PAN confirm that the alliance with the PRI remains strong despite some discontent expressed by the new leader Policarpo Flores regarding the distribution of positions in Adrián De la Garza's team in Monterrey. In recent days, Flores met with Francisco Cienfuegos, a key figure in the Front's campaign towards 2027, marking the beginning of a joint agenda with José Luis Garza Ochoa, his counterpart in the PRI.

Flores, according to close sources, acknowledges De la Garza's natural candidacy as mayor of Monterrey but insists that the PAN should have a decisive participation heading into the contests in the municipalities of Monterrey and Guadalupe. This stance has the backing of Raúl Gracia, who facilitated Flores' rise to leadership, and former governor Ernesto Canales, who showed skepticism about maintaining the alliance with the PRI after the July elections.

The common priority between both parties is to preserve unity, given that a fracture is perceived in both Movimiento Ciudadano and Morena. The demands of the PAN members in Monterrey and Guadalupe seem well-founded: De la Garza won against MC in the capital thanks to support from voters in the south, where the PAN is strong, while in Guadalupe, the PRI lost its historic dominance to Héctor García, providing the PAN a greater opportunity to lead the next project of the front in that key municipality.
