The officials from the Cabinet of Equality for All People appeared before local Congress deputies this Tuesday to analyze in detail the Summary of the Third Report of Governor Samuel García. Present in the legislative chamber were the secretaries of Equality and Inclusion, Martha Herrera; Education, Sofialeticia Morales; and Culture, Melissa Segura, who presented the achievements and advancements of the state administration in the Axis of Equality for All People.
The Secretary of Equality and Inclusion, Martha Herrera, highlighted the progress of the social policy La Nueva Ruta in its five axes: a New León without extreme poverty, an inclusive and non-discriminatory New León, a caring New León, a New León with prevention and community development, and a New León that adds allies to multiply resources. “With La Nueva Ruta we established a social protection system that has a person-centered strategy focused on those living in greater vulnerability.”
In three years, she added, 2 million services were provided to 1.6 million people across 51 municipalities. “Additionally, we carried out 40 social infrastructure projects, such as community centers, daycare centers, senior citizen homes, parks, sports areas, and physical rehabilitation clinics; furthermore, we executed 5,200 housing and electrification actions,” emphasized Herrera. A historical achievement, she highlighted, is the reduction of poverty by 34% and extreme poverty by 50%.
Herrera shared that through Hunger Zero, 337,000 people living with food insecurity are being assisted. “We will not give up until we achieve zero extreme poverty, zero hunger, and zero discrimination, to make Nuevo León the best place to live,” she reaffirmed. Through the Commission for Inclusion and Non-Discrimination, she mentioned, 11 participative agendas were designed, compiled in the book “Including Us” that contains 92 objectives and 293 lines of action, of which 74% are in execution, 19% in planning, and 7% pending.
In her intervention, the Secretary of Education, Sofialeticia Morales Garza, expressed that the guiding principle of her department has been equity and educational quality, to guarantee the right to education for over 1.7 million children, adolescents, and youth. Morales Garza detailed that in two years, the backlog was reduced from 14.4 to 13.5; basic education coverage increased by 0.2 percent with an additional 2,597 students; in upper secondary education 254,989, an additional 9.1%, with 21,328 additional youth.
In higher education, there has been a 9% growth with 309,752 students, and the 57% coverage in higher education is the highest in the state. “In our commitment to dignified and open schools, we have invested 2,536.8 million pesos in these three years; 1,656.5 million allocated for the construction and equipment of infrastructure by Icifed; and 880.3 million pesos in major and minor rehabilitation by the Secretary of Education,” she detailed. She said that 1,180 full-time and extended-day schools have been developed in these three years of government; 203 full-time eight-hour schools with meals; and 977 six-hour extended-day schools, benefiting 160,717 students.
The Secretary of Culture, Melissa Segura, pointed out that the work of her department is to build a New León where culture is an effective and accessible right for all. “Aware of the diverse cultural needs of our population, we have worked to open spaces and opportunities that allow all residents of Nuevo León to participate in and enjoy cultural life,” she indicated. She expressed that the work done as a result of the Sectoral Culture Program has focused on five strategic axes.
