The controversy generated by the "rate hike" in Nuevo León has led to a new critical voice against the mobility strategy proposed by the state government. Adrián de la Garza, mayor of Monterrey, has pointed out that the Pay-per-Kilometer Traveled system for transport providers has been a failure since its inception.
De la Garza has clearly expressed his dissatisfaction, emphasizing that public transport has not yielded good results in the region. He mentioned the long lines of people waiting for transport in San Pedro and announced the implementation of the Regio Ruta starting next year in different areas of Monterrey, which will serve as a feeder system for other routes.
On the other hand, the deputy from Acción Nacional, Ailé Tamez, has filed a complaint against Abraham Vargas for illegal exercise of public service. Tamez argues that Vargas, as head of the General Directorate of the Institute of Mobility and Accessibility of Nuevo León, did not have the necessary authorization to approve the fare increase.
The legislator pointed out that, through an agreement published in the Official State Newspaper, there was an intention to reclassify traditional urban routes as Integrated Express Routes, which implied a concealed increase in public transport fares. Tamez insisted on the importance of applying corresponding penalties for acts of illegality in order to respect current regulations.
According to De la Garza, due to deficiencies in mobility, several neighboring municipalities like Apodaca and Guadalupe have implemented their own public transport systems to improve the situation. The criticism of the "rate hike" and the actions taken by various public figures highlight the existing concern in the region regarding the quality and accessibility of public transport in Nuevo León.
