The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza Santos, revealed that the previous administration of Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas manipulated data on crime incidence, especially in the case of thefts. It was reported that the security personnel urged citizens not to file complaints to prevent criminal acts from being recorded in municipal records, resulting in an underreporting of such incidents.
"Some incidents were increasing, such as homicides and vehicle thefts, but in other types of thefts, nothing was recorded, there was no record of the incidence," said De la Garza. The mayor assured that since he began his administration, all types of thefts occurring in the municipality are being recorded.
It has been reported that since Monday, the PRI mayor has focused his attention on the works and projects carried out during Colosio Riojas's administration. Although within the administration, it has been stated that they are not seeking to initiate a campaign against the former mayor.
"We discovered that theft crimes that were reported were not being recorded; we found that the police were sometimes inciting citizens to avoid filing complaints, which obviously indicated false incidence," declared De la Garza.
