Over 200 Irregular Wells Detected in Puebla

The National Water Commission (Conagua) in Puebla has detected over 200 irregular wells, mainly used for water extraction via tanker trucks, which is subsequently sold in areas without access to potable water networks. The state delegate, Beatriz Torres Trucios, reported this, warning that these practices are carried out constantly, leading the agency to file the corresponding complaints. 'Wells are being drilled at any time, and what we are doing is reporting them. We have over 200 reports on irregular wells,' she stated. The official explained that most of these irregularities are related to water sales in places lacking sufficient hydraulic infrastructure, which highlights the need to strengthen distribution systems. Call for municipalities to improve efficiency In light of this situation, Torres Trucios called on municipalities to approach Conagua and access support programs to expand potable water networks. She also emphasized the importance of improving efficiency in operating systems, as significant losses are recorded in some cases. 'There are systems that extract 10 cubic meters of water and only distribute four; six are lost. It is necessary to work on efficiency,' she explained. Finally, she reiterated that the agency has financial support for the rehabilitation and replacement of networks, inviting municipal authorities to coordinate efforts to improve water access in their communities.
