The area around Hermanos Serdán International Airport is set for a significant economic boost with the construction of a bus terminal, a shopping center, and a hotel. These projects have already attracted the interest of private investors. This was revealed by the president of the Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic in Puebla, Beatriz Camacho Ruiz, who detailed that the proposals have already been submitted to the Ministry of Economics for evaluation. Due to confidentiality, the names of the investors cannot be disclosed, but she confirmed that there are already formal letters of intent to develop these strategic projects. “There are already interested parties who have submitted their proposals to build hotels, a shopping center, and also a bus terminal,” she stated in an interview. Urgent investments amid air growth The business leader emphasized that these projects are a response to the airport's growth, which currently operates 12 flights, strengthening not only tourism but also the transport of goods, especially perishable products to the south of the country. She warned that it is crucial to consolidate the infrastructure to prevent airlines from losing interest in Puebla. “We must ensure that the airlines that are trusting the state do not leave due to lack of use,” she emphasized. It is expected that the construction of these projects will begin this same year, although adjustments may be made as the evaluation processes progress. Comprehensive project with public and private support In March of last year, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier announced the creation of a Tourist and Lodging Services Complex in front of the airport terminal, as part of a strategy to boost regional economic development. The project contemplates a 15,000-square-meter plot and will be developed under a co-investment scheme with organizations such as the Business Coordinating Council, Coparmex, and the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry. Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense, responsible for the administration of the airport, will participate alongside the state government in the modernization of the infrastructure, which includes runway expansion and improvements to the facilities. With these projects, Puebla aims to transform the Hermanos Serdán airport into a new logistical, tourist, and commercial hub in the region.
