The state government of Puebla has unveiled a Cablebús project featuring an integrated mobility card. The plan includes free rides for people with disabilities and students and significantly reduces environmental impact by minimizing tree removal.

Puebla Cablebús Project Announced with Integrated Mobility Card

The state government's Cabinet Coordinator, José Luis García, announced that the Puebla Cablebús project will feature an integrated mobility card. This will allow users to pay with a single method for the cable transport system, the Urban Articulated Transport Network (RUTA), and the bike lane network. Additionally, he announced that people with disabilities and primary school students will be able to use the system for free, as part of an inclusive mobility strategy. During the presentation of the project's technical report, the official detailed that the environmental impact has been significantly reduced, from the initially planned 752 trees to just 97, which represents a little over 10% of the original figure. He specified that the trees will be mainly transplanted at various points throughout the city. Among the areas with the most intervention are 11 Sur, with 21 specimens on the BUAP campus; Juárez Park, with 14; the Ecological Park, with 10; as well as towers on lines 1 and 4, with 10 trees each. Nine trees are also planned for the Library Park, seven at the CIS Angelópolis, seven on line 3 towers, and minor interventions in Xonaca, Amalucan hill, and CENHCH. This is in addition to 30 diseased trees that will be removed. García stated that the economic, technical, social, and environmental feasibility studies confirm that the Cablebús is a viable alternative to the growing mobility crisis in Puebla, marked by the increase in the use of private vehicles and motorcycles. He indicated that there are currently over 4 million daily trips in the state, while the private vehicle fleet exceeds 1.8 million units, a figure that could surpass 2 million by 2030. In this context, he highlighted that the Cablebús is positioned as a sustainable, accessible, and low-emission transport option, as it will operate on 100% electric energy, contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide. Finally, he emphasized that according to the parameters established for this type of project, an intervention of between 100 and 500 trees is considered to have a moderate impact, so the adjustment made places the project below the minimum threshold of environmental impact.
