Volkswagen Workers to Strike Starting November 18

The Volkswagen union reported that more than 1,800 workers at the company's plant in Puebla will enter an indefinite technical strike starting November 18. This movement will affect workers in Segment 2 and auxiliary areas from week 47, initially extending until December 20, but with the possibility of being prolonged.

According to the union, during the strike, workers will have the option to choose between two payment modalities: using vacation days or accepting a salary cut. For those technical employees with vacation balance corresponding exclusively to 2024, 1 vacation day will be deducted to cover 2 strike days. In contrast, for the remaining days and for those without vacation balance, a payment scheme of 69.64% of weekly salary will be applied, deducting the remaining percentage from benefits such as the Christmas bonus, which will be advanced this time.

Amid this situation, it was reported that a third of the technicians will be affected. However, the labor representation distanced itself from the situation, stating that these circumstances are external to the institution. The Volkswagen plant in Puebla is currently dedicated to assembling the Jetta, Tiguan, and Taos models, primarily exporting 69.5% of its production to the United States and sending the rest to markets such as Brazil, Canada, and Germany, among other countries.

The Tiguan truck, produced at the Volkswagen plant in Puebla, will cease to be manufactured on November 19, as part of the measures adopted during the technical strike. The company's union reported that despite the indefinite duration of the strike, payment to workers will be 69% of their salary for at least the first 5 weeks.
