Community tourism will be one of the key axes to boost tourism in the state of Puebla, which is distinguished by its gastronomy, various endemic products, and rich culture, assured Yadira Lira Navarro, the new Secretary of Tourism. In statements during her participation in the International Tourism Fair in Spain, she mentioned her well-known career as an athlete, world karate champion in 2004 and 2010, and Pan American medalist in 2011. With extensive experience in the Administration of Tourist Enterprises, Lira Navarro now leads the promotion of tourism in Puebla.
Along with Deputy Secretary Carla López Malo, they emphasized that under the concept of "shared prosperity," they will seek to strengthen value chains in the state and preserve its cultural expressions. The mezcal route, for example, includes three circuits in the Mixteca Poblana, the Valley of Atlixco, and the Sierra Norte, where the artisanal process of Poblano mezcal is highlighted. Currently, more than half of the 116 municipalities in the state have the designation of origin to produce mezcal, mainly of the espadín variety, recognized for its quality.
In the latest edition of the Brussels World Competition, Puebla won 13 awards for its high-quality mezcals. They emphasized the interest in promoting visits to the palenques so that tourists can get to know closely the producers who have made artisanal mezcal their way of life, stressing the importance of preserving this tradition instead of promoting industrialization.
Another representative tourist route is the Interserrana, which encompasses nine magical towns seeking their interconnection so that visitors can know several of them in a single tour. Puebla has 12 Magical Towns, appealing for adventure tourism, and is also known for its numerous large houses and former estates adapted for romance tourism, which has driven the development of this segment.
On the Interserrana route, specific tourism products are being created, while progress is being made in the construction of a new road to facilitate access to these destinations. Lira Navarro highlighted that the governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta, has implemented a new security strategy that guarantees visits to these places without incidents.
