Puebla Prepares for Holy Week Tourist Surge

Puebla is preparing for one of its busiest seasons of the year. During Holy Week, from April 2nd to 5th, the Puebla capital expects the arrival of around 80,000 visitors, which will generate an estimated economic impact of 300 million pesos. The Secretary of Economy and Tourism, Jaime Oropeza, reported that these figures are part of an even more ambitious outlook for the entire month of April. During this month, the arrival of 300,000 tourists is projected, with a total economic impact that could reach 1 billion pesos. The official highlighted that while the largest flow of visitors will be concentrated during the Easter holidays, religious tourism will continue to drive economic activity throughout the rest of the month. It is expected that by the beginning of May, the number of tourists staying overnight in the city will reach 300,000. As part of the experience, the City Hall has implemented digital tools to facilitate visitor mobility. Through a QR code available on its official website, tourists can consult the route of the traditional tour of the '7 houses,' one of the most representative practices of this period. Additionally, visitors to Puebla can walk the Old Via Crucis, a route of approximately one kilometer that includes 14 chapels, as well as appreciate the replica of the Shroud of Turin exhibited in the El Calvario area. To ensure safety during this season, the Citizen Security Secretariat will deploy a special operation starting March 25th. The head of the department, Félix Pallares Miranda, informed that 479 elements and 67 vehicles will participate, monitoring both tourist areas and the rest of the capital. The operation also includes inclusive attention, as there will be personnel trained to communicate in different languages such as English, French, German, and Chinese, as well as indigenous languages, with the aim of providing close support to national and international visitors. With these actions, Puebla seeks to consolidate itself as one of the main religious tourism destinations in the country during Holy Week.
