The Third Collegiate Court in Administrative Matters of the Sixth Circuit ordered the provisional suspension of the Cablebús construction in Puebla, until a complete environmental impact study is presented to evaluate the effects of the project.
This measure will determine whether a definitive suspension of the project is warranted. Judge Israel Flores specified that, to date, there are no sufficient elements to grant a definitive suspension, as the corresponding studies are not yet available. He also clarified that the resolution does not imply that the state has carried out tree felling or removal, but rather aims to prevent potential environmental damage.
The precautionary measure establishes that the state government must report on the environmental impact study and, if the project involves pruning or removal of trees, detail the compensation actions.
In turn, the government of Puebla informed that it will be on March 31st when it presents the final kinematics study of the Cablebús, in which it will be defined how many trees could be affected. These, they assured, will be transplanted to other green areas. Although there is no definitive figure yet, the Cabinet Coordinator, José Luis García Parra, estimated that around 116 specimens would be relocated.
The ruling stemmed from a legal action promoted by the Hermanos Serdán Collective, neighbors of Prados Agua Azul and the Social Assembly of Water (ASA), who warned of potential environmental impacts, mainly due to the eventual felling of trees.
