Puebla Governor on Women's Political Aspirations

The governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta Mier, stated that women “can be whatever they want, even governors,” referring to political aspirations for 2027, although he made it clear that it is not yet time for electoral definitions. The state head emphasized that in his administration, there are various female profiles capable of competing for popularly elected offices, including Laura Artemisa García, Michelle Talavera, Carla López-Maloy, and Ana Laura Altamirano. “I would not dare to limit anyone from being considered,” he expressed, while reiterating his support for more women to access leadership positions in public life. This clarification came after being questioned about the meeting of the State Network of Armentista Women (REMA), led by Celina Peña, a federal undersecretary, which generated interpretations about a possible “unveiling” for the mayorship of Puebla. Armenta downplayed these versions and noted that the official attended an invitation in her free time. “Dr. Celina attended an event to which she was invited; it was on Sunday and she does not neglect her work. Women can be whatever they want: municipal presidents, governors, even presidents of the Republic, and men too,” he affirmed. “It is not time for candidates” The governor acknowledged that this type of meeting can generate speculation, but insisted that electoral times will be defined by political parties and the corresponding authorities. “It is not time to talk about candidates; that will be defined by Morena, the other parties, and the State Electoral Institute,” he pointed out. Finally, he reiterated that in his cabinet there are multiple women with a track record and results, so he said, “there are not enough fingers on one hand to count them,” highlighting their performance in different areas of government.
