Fire at Puebla's Central Market

A fire at the Central de Abastos in Puebla mobilized emergency services, who successfully controlled and extinguished the blaze without any reported injuries. According to the General Coordination of Civil Protection of the State of Puebla, the fire was addressed immediately following the activation of emergency protocols and inter-institutional coordination. State and municipal Civil Protection elements, as well as state firefighters, worked on multiple fronts to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the market. During the intervention, a critical point was a 20-kilogram gas tank that was on fire in the upper part of the affected area; however, it was promptly controlled, reducing the risk of an explosion. The fire affected at least five commercial spaces dedicated to the sale of eggs, plastics, groceries, chiles, and meat, as well as a warehouse on an upper level and a motorcycle that was also damaged. As part of safety measures, the electricity supply was cut in coordination with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), which helped mitigate risks and facilitate the complete extinguishing of the fire. Preliminarily, authorities indicated that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. The area remains under supervision and poses no risk to the population.
