Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, president of Mexico, announced that the inauguration of the new IMSS San Alejandro Hospital in the city of Puebla will take place next July. The construction of this new infrastructure was carried out by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and will replace the previous hospital, which suffered severe damage during the earthquakes of 2017.
According to reports, 70% of the hospital's construction, which began in 2022, has been completed, requiring an investment of 1,687 million pesos. Zoé Robledo, director of IMSS, highlighted that the main objective of this project is to alleviate the overcrowding at the La Margarita Regional Hospital in Puebla. It was also mentioned that as part of this strategy, the General Hospital in Cuautlancingo and the ophthalmology unit of the General Hospital of Cholula have also been built.
The renovated San Alejandro Hospital will have a capacity of 180 beds and will benefit 368,699 beneficiaries, helping to improve healthcare services in the region and reduce the burden on local hospitals. In Zoé Robledo's words: "This hospital is not just a medical attention building, but a link in a chain of hospitals that, for the first time in many years, we are building in the Mexican Social Security Institute."
The opening of this new hospital infrastructure represents a significant advance in medical care in Puebla and an important step towards strengthening the health system in the region.
