Marilyn Cote is facing an administrative sanction, fines, and even possible arrest as a result of an investigation carried out by the health authority in Puebla. In a press conference, Puebla's Secretary of Health, Araceli Soria, referred to her as a "Pseudopsychiatrist," confirming the closure of her office and setting a deadline for Cote to present documents to support her professional credentials.
The state government hopes that Marilyn Cote can present professional licenses and university degrees to back her claims. Otherwise, a sanction will be considered, which could include fines or even an arrest of up to 36 hours, depending on the findings of the investigation conducted by the health authority.
Governor Sergio Salomón Céspedes also participated in the press conference, assuring that a thorough and detailed investigation will be conducted on the case. The original complaint that arose on social media indicates that Marilyn Cote presents herself as a doctor in Neurosciences and an expert in Neuropsychology, which would have allowed her to treat patients and prescribe controlled medications despite only having a bachelor's degree in Law and a master's degree in Criminalistics.
According to official records, Cote's alleged credentials are not supported by the formal university education required. On her website and social media, Cote claimed to have worldwide recognition and to have worked in the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit in Quantico, Virginia. She also promised to treat depression and anxiety within a week, in addition to self-identifying as an expert in martial arts, as noted in the public complaint against her.
