A false psychiatrist from Puebla, identified as Marilyn Cote, has been exposed on social media through the account 'Charlatan Doctors.' The woman, despite having degrees as a criminal lawyer, was pointed out for presenting herself as a health specialist without having the corresponding professional license according to the National Registry of Professionals. Authorities have confirmed that Marilyn Cote does not possess credentials that would allow her to practice in healthcare areas, leading the Legal Affairs Unit of the federal SEP to file a complaint to determine responsibilities.
Eurípides Flores, the responsible official, called on the population to consult the public platform of the SEP and verify the authenticity of the professional licenses of those offering services, whether they are lawyers, accountants, or doctors. Emphasis was placed on the importance of not being deceived by individuals who misuse documents to present themselves as professionals. Verifying the credentials is vital to ensure that appropriate services are received from qualified individuals.
Araceli Córdoba Soria, secretary of Health of Puebla, has established an ultimatum for Marilyn Cote, giving her a deadline until a specific Thursday to present the alleged titles that would validate her as a psychiatrist; otherwise, she would face administrative sanctions, fines, or arrest. Since November 7, Cofepris has suspended the office of the alleged psychiatrist for violating health regulations, collaborating with the Health Secretariat of Puebla to permanently close the establishment.
Claudia Sheinbaum, the president, described the case as "very serious" as it involves fraud related to health issues. She announced that legal measures will be taken against the false psychiatrist, who lacks the knowledge and professional license necessary to practice in mental health. Sheinbaum indicated that efforts will be made to collaborate with the Health Secretariat to ensure that individuals providing health services have the corresponding accreditations. The leader emphasized the importance of not allowing unqualified individuals to jeopardize the health of the population by offering services fraudulently.
