False Psychiatrist Faces Threat Charges in Puebla

Marilyn Cote Mendieta, who intended to be a psychiatrist in Puebla, now faces a new charge for threatening one of her neighbors. In the past, authorities arrested her for impersonating a profession and for prescribing controlled medications without authorization. She is also being investigated for possible harm to her patients' health, totaling more than eight complaints against her, with the possibility that this number will increase, according to statements from prosecutor Gilberto Higuera Bernal.

Lawyer Marilyn Cote was accused of pretending to be a psychiatrist and promising to cure depression in seven days. In February, a second formal charge was filed against her, this time for threats against a neighbor, whom, according to the investigation, she pointed a firearm at in November 2023. For these crimes, it was ordered that she remain in justified preventive prison in the Cereso of San Pedro, Cholula.

In subsequent hearings, more complaints were presented against her, with individuals demanding justice and preventive measures to prevent other individuals from being harmed by medical impostors like Cote. Given the evidence, it was determined that the false psychiatrist must remain in prison for at least two additional months to conduct a supplementary investigation.

Marilyn Cote faces charges for impersonating a profession, arising from her consultations as a psychiatrist with false documentation, as well as for the illegal prescription of controlled medications.
