Four Suspects Arrested in Armed Attack in Puebla

The Secretary of Citizen Security of Puebla, Vice Admiral Francisco Sánchez González, confirmed that the armed attack that occurred early Saturday, February 14, outside the establishment Sala de Despecho in the Ángelópolis area was an operation planned weeks in advance and that four people have already been arrested for these events. According to the official, the suspects had rented a property near the site to conduct surveillance on the victims. The armed attack left Gisele Ortiz Carreto, Joaquín Wirth, and Emmanuel Esteban as fatalities, and five others injured. Sánchez González detailed that the capture of four alleged suspects was carried out within a two-hour span. The secretary attributed the speed of the result to the permanent deployment in the area and the use of surveillance technology. The suspects were located in a ravine area adjacent to the scene of the events, where they attempted to hide after abandoning the motorcycles they were using. Regarding the investigations into the motive for the crime and the possible involvement of the victims in illicit activities, the secretary called for caution to avoid the revictimization of the deceased and their families. He also stated that there are solid clues collected during the initial intervention that will allow the State Attorney General's Office to identify not only the perpetrators but also the masterminds of the attack. In turn, the Iberoamerican University Puebla and the University of the Americas Puebla issued official statements after confirming that the victims were alumni of their communities. Ibero Puebla, lamenting the death of psychologist Gisele Ortiz Carreto, stated: “We call on the authorities to conduct the necessary investigations that will allow access to justice for the victims.” In the same vein, UDLAP demanded transparency in the clarification process. “We join the clamor for justice and unite in solidarity with the families, demanding that the facts be clarified with absolute transparency,” the academic institution noted.
