Only 40 Municipalities in Puebla Have Updated Risk Atlases

In Puebla, only 40 of the 217 municipalities have a Risk Atlas, and several of these documents are over five years out of date, reported the state coordinator of Civil Protection, Bernabé López Santos. At a press conference, the official acknowledged that the development and updating of these preventive instruments remains a pending task in most municipalities, representing only an 18% advance in the state. 'Some atlases are already over five years old and require updating. We continue to invite municipalities to comply; it is our duty to urge them, although they are autonomous,' he noted. According to data from the Institute for Management, Administration, and Municipal Linkage (Igavim), among the municipalities that have this instrument are San Martín Texmelucan, Atlixco, Cuautlancingo, San Pedro and San Andrés Cholula, as well as Teziutlán and Huauchinango. However, the most recent date from 2021, such as in the case of Tehuacán, while others have considerable age, such as the one from Huauchinango, created since 2005. Operations against irregular gas stations and tankers are announced. On another topic, López Santos announced the implementation of operations to supervise gas stations and tankers that are speeding or carrying out irregular practices, such as filling tanks on public roads. The official indicated that they are working in coordination with the Agency for Safety, Energy, and the Environment (ASEA) to obtain information that allows for strengthening surveillance, after incidents such as the explosion recorded on the Puente de la Concordia in Mexico City. Likewise, he revealed that tankers with double trailers have been detected circulating in busy areas, which represents a risk to the population. In light of this, he emphasized the need to coordinate efforts with the Secretariat of Public Security, the Secretariat of Mobility, and the municipal governments to carry out joint operations. 'We seek to prevent an accident like the one registered on September 10, 2025, in Iztapalapa,' he pointed out. Finally, he announced that in the coming days a meeting with ASEA will be finalized to define the strategy and schedule the actions in the state.
