Puebla Government Investigates Misuse of Water Funds

The government of Puebla will initiate a working table with the water concessionaire after detecting various non-compliances that involve a 'significant amount' of resources that have not been exercised. In parallel, a registry of beneficiaries will be launched for the distribution of water through pipes in neighborhoods with water shortages. The cabinet coordinator, José Luis García Parra, informed that the company has presented failures in the compliance of its investment plan, deviations in performance standards, irregularities in the third amending agreement, as well as general administrative failures. 'The amount we have detected, we will share with you at another time. It is a very important figure, which the concessionaire will surely deny is missing to meet its obligations,' he declared. They will create a registry to supply water to neighborhoods. For her part, the Secretary of Welfare, Laura Artemisa García Chávez, announced that seven delegations will be organized in the conurbation zone and the Puebla capital to address the water supply. She explained that, in order to guarantee transparency, a digital platform will be implemented that will allow registering the program's beneficiaries directly. She detailed that priority will be given to two groups: people who receive water irregularly, that is, only one or two days a week, and those living in irregular settlements that lack the service completely. The official added that, in a coordinated manner, the delivery of water tanks through the community work program is also contemplated, with the aim of facilitating water storage in homes. Likewise, she indicated that the program is in the preparation phase, pending the receipt of the pipes that will be provided by the Infrastructure Secretariat. With these units, it is planned to start operations gradually during April. In a first stage, the registry of beneficiaries will be created and the distribution routes, as well as the water supply points, will be defined, with the objective of optimizing costs, reducing travel times, and making the delivery of the resource more efficient. Finally, she emphasized that the program will prioritize people with the greatest need, with the purpose of directly addressing the water shortage problem in different neighborhoods of Puebla.
