Puebla Parade Returns to Original Route in 2026

Puebla Parade Returns to Original Route in 2026

The traditional civic-military parade for the Battle of May 5th in Puebla will change its route again in 2026, marking a return to its original course along 5 de Mayo Boulevard, with the participation of over 10,500 people. The announcement was made by Cabinet Coordinator José Luis García Parra, who detailed that the parade will begin at Juárez Park and conclude at 18 Oriente, at the Red Cross. The official explained that this adjustment was coordinated with the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the entity in charge of the event's logistics. Although the presence of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who attended last year, was not confirmed, García Parra highlighted that the decision to return to the original route is due to a change in vision. He pointed out that in past administrations, which he described as 'neoliberal governments,' the parade was moved to the Los Fuertes area, limiting public access. 'They took the aristocracy to the highest point of Zaragoza Avenue for the ruler and his entourage to enjoy the parade, while the people of Puebla had to wait below,' he stated. With this change, the parade will once again traverse one of the city's main thoroughfares, where stands will be set up along the route to ensure all attendees can enjoy the event without needing to reserve spots, a practice that generated discontent year after year. It is worth recalling that the route change was made during the administration of Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas, following the rehabilitation of the Los Fuertes area, moving the parade to Zaragoza Avenue and ending at 25 Oriente. Now, Puebla is preparing to revive one of its most emblematic traditions in a format that seeks to be more accessible to the population.
