Increase in Crime Rates in Querétaro

In November, Querétaro saw a spike in criminal activity, with homicides up 10%. Although some crimes like femicide and kidnapping decreased, extortion cases rose significantly by 35% since last year.

During the year 2024, the month of November stood out as the month with the highest recorded crimes at the Los Cantaritos bar, with a total of 26 incidents, followed by October with 25, January and July with 23, and March with 22. On the other hand, homicides with firearms also increased by 10%, rising from 116 to 128.

In contrast, crimes such as femicide and kidnapping showed decreases compared to the year 2023. Despite these ups and downs, the total number of victims of common crimes in Querétaro remained almost unchanged compared to the previous year, with a slight decrease of 0.2%, falling from 9,988 to 9,963 affected individuals.

Regarding the extortion perpetrator, there has been a downward trend since the year 2021, with a decrease of 16.4% between that year and 2022, and an additional 22% from 2022 to 2023. However, in 2024, there was an increase of 35% compared to the previous year, according to data from the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System.

As for other crimes, there was a notable increase in intentional homicide, which rose from 200 to 214 victims, representing a 7% increase. In contrast, femicide decreased by 55%, changing from 9 to 4 victims, and kidnapping decreased by 61%, from 18 to 7 cases.

Additionally, deaths and injuries from traffic accidents showed minimal variations, with the first crime decreasing from 389 to 388 victims, and the second from 1,363 to 1,382.

In general, during the previous year, 266 investigatory folders were opened for extortion in Querétaro, 69 more than in 2023. The month of January had the highest number of reported extortions, with a total of 31 cases.
