During the first quarter of 2025, the municipality of Querétaro experienced a decline in various types of fires compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Civil Protection coordinator, Francisco Ramírez.
Specifically, 48 fires in residential homes were registered, which represented a 58% decrease compared to the 117 reported in 2024. In the case of fires in businesses, the reduction was 47%, going from 38 to 20. Additionally, vehicle fires decreased by 55%, from 60 to 27 cases.
As for urban burning in vacant lots, it decreased by 25%, from 709 to 531 cases. Forest fires in rural areas also showed a 25% decrease, with reports down from 47 to 35.
Ramírez Santana emphasized that, since last October, preventive actions have been implemented ahead of the forest fire season. He also mentioned his participation in national meetings on this topic, where training was provided to handle incidents.
In this regard, he urged the population to take preventive measures, such as avoiding burning waste, campfires in mountainous areas, and regularly checking electrical and gas installations. In the coordinator's words, "All have been attended to in a timely manner, all have been fought and completely extinguished. We make this call to the population to avoid throwing trash, avoid burning waste at any point in any vacant lot or in any rural area."
