Viva Invests $4 Billion in New MRO Facility

The airline Viva plans to invest 4 billion pesos in the construction of a new maintenance workshop (MRO) at Querétaro International Airport. This workshop will provide Viva with more maintenance slots, reducing repair times and improving operational efficiency.

The MRO workshop project will include four hangars distributed over an area of 15 to 20 hectares. Construction is expected to start in mid-2025, finishing in the third quarter of 2026, with operations beginning in early 2027.

The workshop will feature eight production lines, capable of servicing up to 160 aircraft per year, and is expected to generate around 2,000 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs. Initially, priority will be given to Viva's planes, but in the future, services for other Airbus aircraft operated in Mexico, Canada, the United States, and Central America are considered.

Viva will specialize in the A320 and A321 models, surpassing 100 aircraft by the end of 2025. It is highlighted that the MRO workshop project will focus on environmental and energy sustainability, seeking minimal impact on the environment during construction and operation.

"Committed to our long-term vision for the national aviation industry, we invest in more infrastructure for Viva, leveraging local talent and the technical expertise of our collaborators in Querétaro," said Roberto Alcántara, Chairman of the Board of Grupo Viva Aerobus.

For his part, Juan Carlos Zuazua, General Director of Grupo Viva Aerobus, mentioned that this MRO workshop will be essential for Viva's continuous growth and to address the logistical challenges arising from the airline's fleet expansion. The workshop will have national and international certifications, representing an investment in the future of Viva and the aviation industry in Mexico.
