A child can be exposed to unknown dangers while navigating social networks without supervision, warned the Senator from Querétaro, Agustín Dorantes Lámbarri, during a meeting with media representatives called 'With You We Inform'.
In this regard, Governor Mauricio Kuri has entrusted the senator and Senator Lupita Murguía with the presentation and promotion in the Senate of the Republic of an initiative to protect girls, boys, and young people from the risks associated with the use of social networks.
Dorantes emphasized that the initiative does not seek to prohibit or restrict, but to regulate and enhance the responsible use of these platforms. He thanked the trust placed by the governor in this fundamental task to safeguard the best interests of children and youth against the dangers arising from unlimited exposure on social networks.
The senator explained that the package of measures includes amendments to the General Law on the Rights of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents, as well as to the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law. He committed to fostering the debate of ideas and opening spaces to discuss the necessary provisions.
During the informational session led by Governor Mauricio Kuri, various state secretaries presented the risks and consequences linked to the unlimited exposure of girls, boys, and young people on social networks. Among the alarming statistics presented, it was highlighted that more than 30% of minors using social networks experience anxiety and depression, and that 50% of minors exposed to inappropriate content have a higher propensity for suicidal thoughts.
