Program to Remove Abandoned Vehicles in Querétaro

The municipal president of Querétaro, Felipe Fernando Macías (Felifer), has announced a program of days to remove abandoned vehicles from public roads. Macías emphasized that this measure is due to the problem these vehicles represent for urban image and public health. According to the mayor, abandoned cars constitute hotspots of insecurity and neglect in neighborhoods, so he urged citizens to send reports to the Secretariat of Public Services when they identify unusable vehicles, which will then be taken to state impound lots.

In this regard, Article 92 of the Regulation for Mobility and Traffic of the municipality allows authorities to remove vehicles that have been parked for at least 15 days and that accumulate waste that generates infection hotspots. Macías Olvera clarified that these seizures will not be carried out arbitrarily and that action will be taken based on citizen reports.

"It is quite clear the infraction committed when a vehicle is abandoned, so we will continue these days permanently, but not just when I go, as long as you send us your reports, we will act accordingly," the mayor pointed out.

Macías mentioned that the program responds to citizen reports about abandoned vehicles in the city, and that in the first weeks of his government, several dilapidated units have been identified in the seven delegations. In addition, he announced a program of days called "Mayor in Action," which will include visits to different neighborhoods to directly address citizens' concerns about urban infrastructure.

As part of these actions, during one of the days held in the Las Américas I neighborhood, an investment of 2.5 million pesos was announced for the rehabilitation of a main sports field, the canopy, and the walkways. It was also highlighted that during a mega collection day held in the Jardines de la Hacienda neighborhood, more than 10 tons of electronic and electrical waste were collected.
