The municipality of Querétaro closed a wood and kitchen manufacturing establishment in the La Piedad neighborhood after detecting non-compliance with safety regulations following the injury of a worker.
Municipal Civil Protection personnel responded to an emergency call for a 28-year-old man who suffered exposed fractures inside the establishment after being hit by unsecured materials.
During the inspection, various irregularities were found, such as deficiencies in fire protection systems, inadequate electrical installations, stacks with fall risks, lack of staff training, as well as the absence of an internal civil protection program and disorder in work areas.
As a consequence of the inspection, the establishment was temporarily suspended, which could result in a sanction for the owners, potentially exceeding a fine of 54,000 pesos.
"The General Secretariat of Government, through the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection, urges all commercial establishments to comply with safety and civil protection measures, provide appropriate personal protective equipment to workers, and ensure the proper use of this equipment for the safe conduct of activities," the municipality stated in a press release.
