In Querétaro, the extraordinary elections for judges and magistrates are postponed until 2027 due to legal deadlines. The Congress has not started formal discussion on the required reform.

Elections in Querétaro Delayed Until 2027

Deputy Andrea Tovar Saavedra, president of the Board of Directors of the LXI Local Legislature, informed that the election of judges and magistrates of the local Judiciary will take place in 2027, despite the Morena bench proposing that it be done in two stages: in 2025 and 2027. The decision is based on the deadlines established in the transitional provisions of the federal law. It is expected that the joint committees on Administration and Justice Procurement and Constitutional Points will promptly begin work on creating the report for the local constitutional reform, which must be ready before March 15.

On his part, Sinuhé Piedragil Ortiz, a deputy from Morena, lamented that the determination was announced without formal discussion having begun. Although the National Electoral Institute issued an agreement on December 20, 2024, as a preventive measure and recommendation for the proper development of the election, the possibility of holding the extraordinary election in 2025 is being considered, a topic that is expected to be discussed in the coming days. Tovar Saavedra emphasized the importance of maintaining an open discussion space on this matter.

It is highlighted that so far no budget has been allocated for the 2025 election, as the necessary reform has yet to be carried out. The Querétaro State Electoral Institute indicated that they will comply with what the powers determine regarding this issue, despite currently lacking the assigned resources.
