Politics on the Anniversary of the Constitution

Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico, decided not to invite the Judiciary to the celebration of the anniversary of the Mexican Constitution, considering that the Court was attempting to influence the judicial election of 2025. Minister Javier Laynez expressed his concern about the exclusion of the members of the Supreme Court from the ceremony and pointed out that those who are not aligned with Morena and the current government are punished.

The parliamentary coordinators of the PAN and PRI in the Senate criticized the Government of Mexico for excluding Norma Piña, president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, from the commemoration of the anniversary of the 1917 Constitution. The event took place in Querétaro and had the presence of governors and politicians from various parties.

Ricardo Anaya, coordinator of the PAN parliamentary group, lamented the lack of invitation to the president of the Supreme Court and emphasized that the Constitution establishes the separation of powers, making it relevant to include all branches of government in the celebration. He criticized that only ministers aligned with the Morena government were invited, which he considers an act of political polarization.

Anaya pointed out that the reforms to the Constitution made by Morena lacked dialogue and consensus, undermining democratic principles. He questioned the moral authority of the government to promote unity after generating divisions and mentioned the irony that the ceremony took place in the Teatro de la República, a symbol of the separation of powers by excluding the judiciary. He also criticized the lack of dialogue with the Judiciary.

For his part, Manuel Añorve, parliamentary coordinator of the PRI, stated that the exclusion of the Judiciary shows the lack of guarantees of the Rule of Law by the government. Añorve denounced the lack of dialogue with the Judiciary and the undermining of democratic checks and balances. During the ceremony, governors from different states, both supportive and critical of the central government, were present.
