The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, gave a speech at the Theater of the Republic in Santiago de Querétaro, emphasizing the importance of strengthening democracy and avoiding practices that undermine transparency in electoral processes. Sheinbaum highlighted that the arrival of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2018 marked the beginning of the Fourth Transformation of the Republic and noted the constitutional reform initiatives sent to recover the social and nationalist sense of the Constitution of 1917.

In particular, she mentioned the reform to the Judiciary that would allow the election of ministers, judges, and magistrates by popular vote. Sheinbaum emphasized that these reforms aim to integrate social programs as constitutional rights, recognize indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples, and promote the participation of women in the Constitution. The president also pointed out the importance of avoiding nepotism in Mexican politics.

Recalling the drafting of the Mexican Constitution in 1917 in just 62 days, Sheinbaum highlighted that Mexico positioned itself at the forefront by recognizing social rights. She announced the sending of two constitutional reforms to Congress: one to ratify the principle of non-re-election in positions of popular election and another to prohibit family members from immediately occupying the position of an elected official, combating nepotism.

Sheinbaum emphasized Mexico's sovereignty in the face of external threats and the country's determination to defend its rights and homeland. These reforms aim to strengthen legitimacy and transparency in electoral processes in Mexico, promoting equity and accountability in public positions.
