Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio expressed his support for the initiative to prohibit nepotism in public office. He stated his willingness to fight against this practice, as reflected in his favorable vote for the reform in the Senate of the Republic. In a video shared on his official Facebook page, the politician from Guerrero emphasized that he considers it important to end nepotism in politics, as he believes it occurs when a ruler places their relatives in government.
In his statements to the press, Salgado Macedonio commented that he feels young and hopes for opportunities that may arise in the future. Although he has not confirmed his candidacy for governor, he mentioned that he could run if his daughter completes her current term and still feels prepared to take on that challenge in the state elections of 2033.
On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico City announced her intention to combat nepotism and re-election in Mexican political life. She presented two new reform initiatives before the Congress of the Union, one to prevent re-election in any popular elected office and another focused on ending nepotism. Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of "Effective Suffrage, No Reelection" as a fundamental principle and chose February 5 to present these proposals, coinciding with the day of the 1917 Constitution.
In response to these measures, Félix Salgado Macedonio backed Sheinbaum's stance and reiterated his commitment in the fight against nepotism. As the father of the current governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado, and with his own political aspirations in the same state, the senator supports initiatives that promote transparency and equal opportunities in public service.
