On the afternoon of Monday, March 4, Miguel Hernández was visiting his pasture in the locality of El Tamarindo, municipality of Rosamorada, Nayarit; he was going to check his tobacco crop, as he did daily, but that was the last time. The man was found dead, on the Los Cerritos property, hours later, with two gunshots. His body was 400 meters from where the authorities found the charred corpse of officer Luis Antonio Medina, a member of the Ministry of Mobility of the Nayarit government.
It is presumed that Miguel Hernández witnessed the moment when the Semovi police officer was murdered and burned, so to silence him, the criminals took his life, according to witness reports. Among his belongings, they found his voter ID, which allowed for his identity to be confirmed quickly.
For this case, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Nayarit issued a search bulletin and a statement announcing that the officer was missing, only to later confirm his location and identity. However, no official details were given about Miguel Hernández in their subsequent bulletins.
Rocío Aguayo, Miguel's daughter, has expressed her outrage over the injustice of her father's murder and the lack of visibility it has had in official reports. On social media, Rocío has called for justice and denounced the insecurity that took him away.
Armed violence in Nayarit has generated a worrying situation, especially in areas like Huajicori, where forced displacements of people and clashes between criminal groups are reported. Cases of mutilated bodies, thefts, homicides, and involuntary disappearances have also been recorded.
The murder of Miguel Hernández has shocked the community, which is manifesting its dismay over what happened. Merchants, tobacco growers, farmers, friends, and family have offered condolences and support to the family, which now demands justice and visibility. The life of the Hernández Aguayo family has drastically changed as a result of this tragic event, leaving an irreparable void.
