The Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Yucatan and the Secretary of Public Security (SSP) of the same state have initiated an investigation folder to clarify a tragic incident in the municipality of Tekit, where a young man identified as Alejandro Ismael was lynched after attacking a woman with a machete who unfortunately passed away.
The lynching took place on the night of January 27, even though the alleged perpetrator was detained by the police, a group of people managed to pull him out of the patrol car to beat him. Amid the crowd's shouts, it was demanded that physical punishment was not enough, and it was suggested to burn him alive. According to social media posts, it was indicated that the young man had mental problems due to drug use.
Alejandro Ismael's mother, in tears, revealed in an interview that she was threatened by local residents not to intervene, under penalty of suffering a similar fate, although she demanded justice for her son and that drug traffickers in the area be arrested.
In reference to the case, investigation folder UNATD14-GG/102/2025 was opened to clarify the facts. The governor of Yucatan, Joaquín Díaz Mena, condemned the violence exercised by the population by taking justice into their own hands, highlighting that such behavior goes against the values of Yucatecos.
He committed to finding those responsible for the lynching and assured that they would receive the corresponding sanction by law to prevent similar cases from happening again. The municipality of Tekit reported that, after the attack on the woman, they provided support to the family and collaborated with the authorities by handing over the aggressor to the State Investigation Police.
The town hall indicated that they continue to collaborate closely with state and federal authorities in the investigation of the sad events.
