
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico strongly condemned the lynching that occurred in the municipality of Tekit, Yucatán. Through its platforms, the UN demanded that Mexican authorities ensure the safety and protection of the population across all regions of the country.
"Authorities must guarantee safety and protect the entire population," emphasized the international organization, highlighting that cases of lynching perpetuate violence and that the State must take measures in this regard.
The UN message comes in response to the events in Tekit, where residents demanded justice following the alleged murder of a woman by a community member. This situation triggered the death of the aggressor at the hands of the local residents.
The events began when Alejandro ‘N’, nicknamed "El Wero", allegedly attacked María with a wooden stick, causing her death from her injuries. After the attack, authorities detained "El Wero", but an enraged mob took him from the police and lynched him in retaliation.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reiterated its rejection of the lynching that occurred in Tekit, Yucatán, urging for the prevention and diligent investigation of any manifestations of violence like this.
