The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Yucatán announced the detention of five individuals involved in the lynching of a man in the municipality of Tekit. The victim, identified as Alejandro ‘N’, alias ‘El Güero’, was burned alive by the residents of Tekit on January 27, accused of murdering a 69-year-old woman known as ‘Doña Candy’. Among those arrested is Miguel A. N, 33 years old, identified as the main responsible party and instigator of the events.
The events unfolded when the residents of Tekit accused ‘El Güero’ of beating an elderly woman to death, identified as María N., 69 years old, who died at the Juárez Hospital in Mérida. Despite Alejandro ‘N’, 21 years old, being arrested by authorities, the community members took him from the authorities to administer justice on their own.
In a video that circulated on social media, a crowd can be seen brutally beating ‘El Güero’ with sticks, stones, and kicks, even setting him on fire. According to family members, Alejandro had mental health issues and drug addictions.
In addition to Miguel A. N, 33 years old, Vicente Raúl ‘N’, 58 years old; Luis Ángel ‘N’, 30 years old; José ‘N’, 29 years old; and José G. C. N, 32 years old were also arrested in connection with the case. Alejandro's mother turned him in believing he would be safe with the authorities, who continue their investigations to determine responsibilities. Authorities reported that the arrested individuals were presented before the control judge who issued the arrest warrants.
