Sentenced to 13 Years for Human Trafficking

A man was sentenced to 13 years in prison for prostituting a woman of Nicaraguan nationality for seven years, forcing her to engage in sexual relations with men in several municipalities of the State of Mexico and in Hidalgo. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) reported that Eduardo Miranda Olivares was convicted of human trafficking, and in addition to the prison sentence, he was fined 82,200 pesos, as well as 318,448 pesos for damages, and his civil and political rights were suspended.

According to the investigation conducted by the Mexican prosecutor's office, from March 2009 to 2016, the convicted man forced the victim to have sexual relations with men in exchange for money, in hotels and bars located in the municipalities of Tultitlán, Tlalnepantla, Naucalpan, Atizapán de Zaragoza, and even in the state of Hidalgo. The individual contacted clients and transported the victim to various places to carry out this activity, benefiting from the money obtained by her. Furthermore, he threatened her with informing the immigration authorities about her illegal stay in Mexico.

The woman managed to escape in 2016 and reported her situation to the authorities. The Public Ministry agent began the corresponding investigation and, with the evidence gathered, requested an arrest warrant against the individual. After his capture, he was taken to the Tlalnepantla Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, at the disposal of a Judge, who after a legal process, issued this sentence.
