The construction of the Mexico-Toluca train viaduct up to the Observatorio station will require an investment of at least 1,556 million pesos from public funds, according to the rationale presented in the Federal Expenditure Budget Project by the government. The 'El Insurgente' train will begin pre-operational tests to and from the Observatorio station in the first semester of 2025.
The project aims to complete the connection of the train that currently operates between Santa Fe and Zinacantepec. To achieve this, resources will be needed to construct an additional one and a half kilometers. It is intended to finalize the architecture and equipment of the Observatorio station, the Cable-stayed Viaduct, the Prefabricated Arch Viaducts on fronts 23 and 24, and the Special Santa Fe Viaduct to reach the Observatorio station.
Additionally, it is planned to complete the installation of track, catenary, and electromechanical systems up to the Observatorio station, as well as the urbanization of the Vasco de Quiroga station and the electromechanical work. For the upcoming year, it is estimated that federal transfers for the construction of the Interurban Train will exceed 96,911 million pesos.
The Mexico-Toluca train is a project that has faced significant delays in its execution, spanning the terms of several presidents. Areas like the Río Tacubaya zone have presented obstacles during construction, leading to a pause in the works for a few months.
