In a coordinated effort to expand immunization coverage at the start of the 2025-2026 winter season, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez led the opening of the Mega Vaccination Drive, jointly organized by the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx) and the State Health Secretariat.
The Mega Vaccination Drive is part of the National Winter Vaccination Campaign 2025-2026, which aims to expand access to immunization in school, community, and high-population-density areas. The drive will also be replicated in Tecámac on December 6th and in Texcoco on December 10th as part of the 2025-2026 winter strategy.
The State Health Secretary, Macarena Montoya Olvera, underscored the need to strengthen immunization as a priority public health tool, highlighting that each dose helps reduce the burden of disease and prevent serious complications from seasonal respiratory infections.
The event was set up in the parking lot of the American Football Stadium "Lic. Juan Josafat Pichardo Cruz", a space arranged to allow for the care of large volumes of people and to speed up the logistics of vaccination administration.
As part of seasonal recommendations, the importance of dressing appropriately during cold fronts, consuming fruits rich in vitamin C, having regular preventive check-ups, and completing vaccination schedules for both children and adults was emphasized. These elements are considered essential to reduce the incidence of respiratory diseases during months of high viral circulation.
The rector of UAEMéx, Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado, highlighted the collaboration between the state government and the academic institution, stating that vaccination represents a strategic component for self-care and collective protection.
According to international organizations such as UNICEF, immunization generates health, social, and economic benefits by reducing the risk of outbreaks and protecting the community.
The Mega Vaccination Drive reaffirms the importance of alliances between educational institutions and health authorities to ensure timely access, effective prevention, and more resilient community environments against transmissible diseases.
This initiative plans to administer more than 46,000 doses aimed at the university community, teaching staff, and the general population. The actions include the distribution of influenza, COVID-19, pneumococcal, and measles vaccines, as well as updating childhood vaccination schedules for girls, boys, and adolescents, reinforcing community protection against the increase in epidemiological risks during the winter months.
